THE BIGGEST AND THE BRIGHTEST COLLIDES IN A NIGHT OF STARS
It would be an explosive night of offense and defense as the league stages its very first battle of stars on Sunday, October 19 dubbed as The 1st PEX-WIS ALL-STARS Game. Featuring the best performers from both sides of the league, the event would be the curtain raiser for the Quarterfinals that is going to start on Monday. The BIG 6 division would be coached by GM MJRealm of the APOLLO NETBURNERS while the GREAT 6 division will be mentored by GM Bananaboy of the ORTIGAS ROCKETEERS.
This year's game will be hosted by the GREAT 6 division for having a higher win-loss record at 79-66 compared to the BIG 6's 76-69.
Looking at the rosters, this game is expected to be a battle of strategies by the coaches as the teams have contrasting styles. The BIGGEST ALL-STAR would be relying on its vaunted inside strength while the GREATEST ALL-STAR would be anchoring more on a run and gun type of game.
With a handful of behemoths in their roster led by The Diesel Shaquille O'Neal and The Dream Hakeem Olajuwon, the away team would try to close down the paint and exert their inside dominance. Try to imagine sitting down Shaq and Hakeem and substituting The Superman Wilt Chamberlain and the Big Assassin Walt Bellamy. 2 great monsters replacing 2 equally menacing giants. Complimenting their inside game would be a slew of explosive slashers led by His Airness Michael Jordan and Sir Charles Barkley ably supported by The Flash D-Wade, Scottie Pippen and Penny Hardaway. Their outside game would be anchored on the hot hands of Ray Allen and Mr. Nice Guy Grant Hill while John Stockton is expected to carry the bulk of playmaking.
On the other hand, the home team is looking to offset their size disadvantage with quickness and relentless defense. The GREATEST ALL-STAR would be bannered by MVP frontrunner Kobe Bryant and Master Showtime himself, Magic Johnson. Mr. Do-it-all Kevin Garnett is expected to lead the defensive fortress as he forms a lean but mean triple tower combination with The Admiral David Robinson and Mr. NBA himself, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Coming off the bench are 2 deadly guard-forward combo in T-Mac and LeBron James, the hottest shooter in the league right now in Larry Bird and The Mailman Karl Malone. The defensive anchors would be The Glove Gary Payton, Big Ben Wallace and the league's best passing big man in Bill Walton.
I am looking forward to a close and exciting encounter between the two teams. What with the league's best minds leading each side, missing this game could mean missing half of your life.

ALL-STAR GAMES BUILD-UP A BIG TREAT TO LEAGUE FOLLOWERSAs part of the league's build-up to the Battle of the Stars tomorrow, Sunday, the All-Star rosters of both divisions had some practice games to help them polish their team play and offense. The Greatest All-Stars faced BIG 6 division leader PEX_APOLLO_NETBURNERS while the Biggest All-Stars battled GREAT 6 pacesetter PEX_ORTIGAS_ROCKETEERS. The BIGGEST ALL-STARS displayed their hulking inside presence as they humbled the ROCKETEERS, 107-91. Shaq, Wilt, Hakeem and Walt combined for a total of 43 pts. 27 rebs. and 13 blks. while playing for just 25 minutes or less. Sir Charles hauled down a game-high 14 rebs. while John Stockton dished out 7 feeds. The game showed the massive inside strength of the BIGs which they would aim to display during the league's big event itself. On the other side of the league, the GREATEST ALL-STARS showed amazing team versatility as they subdued the NETBURNERS, 121-91. The GREATs used a freestyling offensive game as 7 players scored more than 12 points apiece and passing a game-high 41 feeds led by Magic Johnson's 12 assists in just 21 minutes. It was also fun as the fans saw varying offensive sets like when T-Mac played the point, Kobe at the offguard and LeBron James as the Small forward. Another was when Big Ben played the slot with The Mailman at the power forward post and KG playing the small forward position. The most surprising combination was when Kobe played at the top, Payton playing offguard, Magic at small forward, Bill Walton as power forward and the Mailman at center. An interesting sidelight in the practice game was the fact that the NETBURNERS have 5 of its players in the GREAT 6's all-star lineup. So the practice game became some sort of a preview on how the GREATS would fair against Shaq and Sir Charles. And if their explosive offense would hold out the way it did on this game, then the GREATS are expected to give the mamoths of their BIG counterparts a very good game come Sunday.
